The name Eylant comes from some ideas that floated around Gavin's head in 2000, when he was thinking about the possibility of starting his own company. That would have been to develop an audio interface that uses ethernet rather than PCI, USB or firewire. Research into the cost and technical aspects meant it was never started. But by that point the domain had been registered. In actual fact the initial name was Islant, but due to some domain registrars dodgy practices it had already been registered and parked. When Gavin mentioned this to his brother Russell, the name Eylant came into being. The name was just a name, but later turned from being a pseudo-acronym into a real acronym, standing for Even You Love Audio Network Technology. Now that there wont be a company developing the technology, it's an orphan acronym. So since the domain was registered, why not use it! I guess in the future a new acronym may be found!
